Washington Park Private Residence

Seattle, Washington Park

Built 1936

This 1936 Washington Park residence presented an opportunity to restore the operation of its original wood windows while preserving their historic character.

Decades of accumulated paint had sealed the window sashes and side jambs, preventing them from functioning properly. I carefully removed approximately 80 years of paint buildup, then removed the temporary plastic covering and reassembled the restored windows.

One particularly interesting feature of this project was the original interior shutters. Their mounting hardware, positioned on either side of the window's blind stops, required careful removal before the blind stops could be accessed.

The completed restoration demonstrates how even heavily painted historic windows can be returned to working condition while retaining their original architectural details.
