Laurelhurst Private Residence

Seattle, WA

Built 1929

This historic Laurelhurst residence, built in 1929, Years of accumulated paint had sealed the original double-hung windows shut, preventing both the upper and lower sashes from operating as intended.

Extensive paint removal was necessary to free the window sashes. The original parting beads had also been painted over, so I fabricated replacements using clear vertical-grain fir, allowing both sashes to slide smoothly and operate independently.

Once the windows were restored and reassembled, I installed salvaged, period-appropriate sash locks and handles where needed, preserving the home's historic character while returning the windows to full functionality.

Given the age of the home and the potential presence of lead-based paint, appropriate safety precautions were taken throughout the restoration process.
